The National Palliative Care Week SA Breakfast brought together sector leaders and partners from across the palliative care, ageing, community and health sectors for a morning of thoughtful discussion and shared purpose. Held at Food on the Table,a not‑for‑profit community organisation dedicated to providing free, nutritious meals to South Australians in need, the venue offered a meaningful setting for meaningful conversations about this year’s theme, Big Questions, Real Answers.
We were pleased to welcome such a strong turnout, reflecting the commitment across South Australia to strengthening palliative care and the networks that support people through serious illness, caregiving, dying and grief.
Panel Discussion: Big Questions, Real Answers
A central feature of the morning was our panel discussion, which explored the realities and opportunities within palliative care from multiple perspectives. We extend our sincere thanks to:
- Dr Beatriz Negrette Velasquez — Central Adelaide Palliative Care Services
- Julia Overton — Carers SA
- Shannon Sanderson — Ageing Australia
Their contributions offered clarity, depth and practical insight, grounding the theme in lived experience and sector expertise. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration, early engagement and community‑centred approaches in delivering high‑quality care.
Launch of The Compassionate Alliance SA
The breakfast also marked the formal launch of The Compassionate Alliance SA, a new statewide initiative designed to support organisations to strengthen compassionate and inclusive practices. Co‑designed over the past 12 months with partners across South Australia and Victoria, the Alliance provides a structured framework to help organisations embed Compassionate Communities principles into everyday work.
