This year’s National Palliative Care Week invited all of us to get to the heart of it. To every volunteer, member, partner and supporter who gave their time and heart to this week, thank you. You are the reason this work is possible.
Here’s a look at how South Australia marked National Palliative Care Week 2026:
🧡 Light Up SA Eight incredible landmarks across our state glowed orange in a show of solidarity and awareness for palliative care. Lighting up this year were the Adelaide Convention & Entertainment Centre, Adelaide Oval, HMAS Whyalla, Elemental on Ocean Street in Victor Harbor, the Riddoch Arts & Cultural Centre and Lady Nelson Visitor Information Centre in Mount Gambier, Gawler Civic Centre, the Copper Coast Town Hall, and Tasman Terrace Street Up Lights in Port Lincoln. A beautiful reminder that palliative care touches every corner of our state.
🧡 SA Breakfast Our flagship NPCW event brought the sector together for a morning of connection, reflection and shared purpose. It was exactly the kind of gathering that reminds us why this work matters so much.
🧡 PalliLEARN Sessions Two free online sessions, What is Palliative Care? and What Matters Most to Me?, welcomed participants from across the state to learn, reflect and explore what truly matters in end of life care and connection.
🧡 Palliative Approach to Care Workshop In collaboration with our wonderful PEPA educators, we delivered a free hands-on workshop for those who walk alongside people in the last chapter of life. Practical, powerful and deeply appreciated.
🧡 Talk Listen Connect (TLC) Training Community members joined us to build simple but vital skills, learning how to start difficult conversations, listen with compassion, and strengthen the everyday connections that matter most when it counts.
🧡 Members and Volunteers Networking Drinks We closed out the week the best way we know how, together. A relaxed and joyful evening at the Parkside Hotel to celebrate our incredible community of members and volunteers who make everything possible.
